This was one of the worst experiences I have had in an hotel for many years.
The property is badly in need of refurbishment both inside where the rooms and corridors are drab and gloomy and outside where the tarmac paving in the parking area is in a very poor condition. The bedroom was small and our night's sleep was disturbed throughout by noise from an adjacent valve room where frequent clicking and hissing could be clearly heard. The bathroom and shower cubicle were very small and the shower hose had a very bad leak from the shower head joint. Because of the size of the shower cubicle it was barely possible to turn around without disturbing the mixer tap which was not a thermostatic mixer and therefore was liable to result in unexpected and dangerous temperature variations in use.
I complained to the hotel reception in the morning about the constant noise from the adjacent valve room and I was offered a free breakfast for my wife and I as recompense. Because we needed to leave for the St Malo ferry I was not able to stay longer to argue for a refund of the room charge, which would have been a fair outcome.
